December, 2000, acrylic on canvas board I have always been fascinated with Christian imagery and iconography. This painting is a variation on the ubiquitous crucifixion scene and involves alot of how I see Christian mythology in terms of sexual symbology. On a more personal level I painted it to express my apparent lack of will power at the time. I was wanting to stop drinking alcohol and my mind was constantly being tortured by images of crosses and naked women which made me want to drink even more to make the debilitating thoughts go away. The blood the women all are swimming in below the hanged "Christ" is representative of alcohol; the communal, primal oblivion; and both love and lust that intoxicates and tortures. I haven't been drunk in three years now which is a good thing, but I still think of naked women alot. Hahahahaha.
